Bookbinding Basics with Tea

Hands-On at Whitcomb’s Summer 2022: Bookbinding Basics with Tea

Participants will learn a variety of bookbinding techniques and have the space and tools to design and create a book of their choice. This Sunday afternoon workshop is meant to be relaxing, fun, and inspiring.  Instructor Susie Tarnowicz will demonstrate paper folding and gluing techniques, embossing, engraving, stitching for hardcover and soft cover books.  All levels welcome. Tea will be presented and enjoyed.

Adult class. Middle School and High School students welcome with permission. Please contact Susie at 845-443-0640. 

Class Fee: $30

Material Fee: $40 (participants will go home with bone folder, awl, and thread of their own.)

Special Note: Please bring recycled materials, paper of choice to make book.  The more the better! (Old textbooks, paper bags, fabric, envelopes, old mail, nice drawing paper, different textures) Cover options will be offered and some paper to get your started. 

Susie Tarnowicz is an artist, farmer and educator currently living and working in Wadhams NY. She has 15 years of experience working on farms and has been a practicing artist for 20 years, participating in artist residencies’ and exhibiting her work both internationally and throughout New England. During this time she’s been invited to teach workshops and classes to middle and high school students as well as years teaching girls in the private school system. Susie seeks out opportunities in education and to learn; she loves being a part of creating something new and to facilitate drawing. She is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design with a degree in Painting and Creative Writing, lived and worked in the Adirondacks nearly 13 years ago and is excited to return.
