In her upcoming book for kids, One Long Line, Loree introduces pine processionary caterpillars. Known for their odd habit of moving in large family groups and always in single file lines, these unusual creatures inspired two distinct series of experiments, conducted on different continents and decades apart, allowing scientists to transcend time, space, and species.

Loree Griffin Burns holds a Ph.D. in biochemistry and writes about science and nature, mostly for kids. Her books include Life on Surtsey, the story of one of the newest islands on Earth; Beetle Busters, the tale of a rogue beetle and its surprise appearance at the edge of our northeast hardwood forest; and You’re Invited to a Moth Ball, an introduction to moths and mothwatching. She lives in Westport.
