Bill Evans (1947-2025) was, in the words of those who knew him best, a delightful paradox — a strong and athletic sportsman whom no one could describe without the word "gentle." This exhibition celebrates his life and art, framed by the mountains he loved above all else.

Born in Albany in 1947, Bill graduated from Yale University with a degree in political science, where he was an All-American lacrosse player. He went on to study at L'École des Beaux-Arts in Bordeaux and the Parsons School of Design, later teaching at the Munson-Williams-Proctor School of Art in Utica and spending over thirty years as owner and manager of John Street Studio and Gallery.

A 46er twice over — first as a camper at Camp Lincoln, later as an adult returning again and again — Bill saw the mountains the way only an artist could: attuned to the shifting color and light of every season. This exhibition brings together his abstract and representational work across multiple media, offering a close look at the landscape he loved most.
