The Grange has just been awarded a $58,238 Capital Improvements Grant from the New York Council on the Arts (NYSCA) to make renovations and improvements to the Whitcomb’s Arts building.
With regular gallery exhibitions by local artists, as well as many events in the indoor and outdoor community spaces, Whitcomb’s Arts has become a major part of the region’s cultural scene. This grant will support much needed improvements to the building's exterior, increase its "curb appeal" and encourage visitors to stop in.
The project will include the installation of metal siding around the entire building and construction of an attractive entrance featuring planters, outdoor seating, and awnings over the doorways. We'll also be adding a pergola to the rear deck to provide shade and create an area for small gatherings and a place to sit and enjoy the riverside gardens.
Over the past five years, generous contributions and many hours of volunteer labor have transformed Whitcomb’s from a derelict garage into a thriving arts space. This grant will go a long way towards helping us finish the exterior work. We still need to raise an additional $10,000 to complete it.
